Slate is a fine-grained metamorphic rock derived from a shale-type sedimentary rock. Slate
is fine-grained, relative to granite, and also much more uniform in composition
and will not take on a high polish. This makes slate very durable and resistant
to heat, staining and chemical etching from acidic foods. It also means
that slate is lower maintenance than all but granite. Slate colors are mostly dark
with greys and greens most common. |
